Katie - 2010 WINNER!

God gave me a vision and in that vision, I saw a healthier & happier Katie. I saw a wife, mother & servant filled with confidence & able to do anything with her renewed strength from our heavenly Father above. A friend reminded me during this challenge, that I did not gain my unwanted weight in 40 days, therefore, I would not loose it in 40 days. However, these past 40 days have been my golden ticket to establishing a new & healthier habit & routine that will unveil the vision God has given me as well as his plan for me. It has motivated me more than words can describe.

Name Katie
Age 39
Home Town Lynnwood
Why do you want to be considered?

Im a wife and homeschooling mom of 4 children, 2 of whom were recently adopted in the last 18 months. For the past 12 years, Ive devoted my life to serving others through the church and various other groups. As a result, I struggle making time for myself, creating a deterioration of my physical health, abilities, and mostly my self-esteem and confidence.

What's holds you back?

Initially, the weight gain and high blood pressure, made my pregnancies high risk. Since then, I have been held back physically by weight gain and emotionally by low self-esteem. As a result of both of these issues, I am not comfortable in many public situations and often opt out of certain activities. This is not who I was and want to be again.

Favorite Foods

Roast beef, Mexican foods, almost all fruits and veggies, black beans, and seafood are just a few.

Favorite Activities

I love to cook and play games with my family. Teaching, planning events, organize, watching movies and reading. I enjoy communicating online with family and friends, camping, travelling, and shopping. I would also love to get back into bike riding, hiking, swimming and more physical activities with my family.

Current Occupation Homemaker

Like my sister said, a vessel for the Lord. I've gained new friends. Ginny shared some really sweet words about our friendship and working out together. That has been huge and motivating. I have watched her success and prayed for her over her challenges. No, the 40 days weren't always easy but it was so worth it and so rewarding as I am on Day 40 and reflect. Day #39.... almost at the 40 days! What a blast this has truly been for me. A time of transformation. I am so excited for the voting to begin. Any of us ladies deserve the grand winner prize & we are ALL winners for taking on this challenge and completing it! YEAH! However, only 1 of us will get the most votes for the grand prize of a lifetime membership with Mark Haner and his boot camp. I would LOVE to be that winner, but nonetheless I know that I have through the rest of 2010 to achieve my goals and continue with my transformation. As Ginny shared, to have the finanical burden lifted for boot camp & exercise training is a weight off our shoulders. Knowing how I have been a yo-yo on the weight scale, a lifetime membership would be ideal for me. As for my health - I felt sick going to bed last night & hubby was still sick BUT today is a new day. I feel great, slept wonderfully & have no symptons but a cold maybe coming on. Hubby is back to work, kids are all healhty & I feel wonderufl. I plan to get out today and walk with the kids in the beautiful weather. One more day of blogging to keep my committment with Spirit... thank you for those who post encouragements or comments. I have so enjoyed them. My FB page will remain up for those that would like to follow along http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Everett-WA/Vote-for-Katie-Jones-on-the-Spirit-40-Day-Health-Fitness-Challenge/221991637013?ref=ts One of the many transformations I have made in this challenge is to limit my time on the computer & that has been awesome! I have really changed my priorities & LOVE it! THANK YOU to everyone who got me here & for your continued support & encouragement. Not sure when voting begins (I think tomorrow on the 21st). Please consider VOTING for me as your Grand Winner. I'd truly be blessed to receive your vote. GOD BLESS YOU! Katie

Real late blogging for today ... Day #38 has a headache that has been here since Day #37. Drinking lots of water and getting lots of rest. Went to bed last night waiting to be sick... tummy was a little unsettled. Praying for God's healing on my hubby (who is still home sick and needing my care) and for me too. I feel like I"m on the verge of getting sick but just not full blown. I see our new and final videos are up now. It's truly been a fun journey and I'm so bummed to be at the end and not feeling 100%! But my plan is to be at boot camp on Saturday with the rest of the gang. God is good. God is faithful - He will give me the strength I need. Thank you for the prayers and concerns. Still praying to not get hit as hard as my husband was hit and that the rest of my kids stay healthy (who haven't gotten it already). Voting starts soon. I'd love your vote to be the GRAND WINNER! Thank you for your support during this challenge. Please do leave a comment. I have posted makeover photos on my Facebook page - go check them out. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Everett-WA/Vote-for-Katie-Jones-on-the-Spirit-40-Day-Health-Fitness-Challenge/221991637013?ref=nf

Day #37 brings a sick household or partially sick household. I had 2 of my 4 little ones with the stomach thing over the weekend on and off and as of 4am this morning, it's my poor hubby. He's home sick in bed and requesting Gatorade. So off I go to take care of him today. Tonight I'm planning to go to the Olympus Spa with my friend Jaimee for her birthday, unless hubby needs me to stay home or I get sick. Praying that I stay strong. Praying for a day of healing. I had a productive day yesterday with pork in the crockpot while I started the huge project of cleaning out the garage. I now need to empty the seats out of the car and load it up to take to my favorite thrift store (Helping Hands) in Bothell. I have emailed Spirit 105.3 all my final stuff for the voting segment. I'm excited for the finale. I'ts been an incredible journey. Praying for all the ladies as many have hit some major road blocks. This hasn't been all easy, espeically with many people watching. But here we are at the end and God's hand has been holding each of us all the way through. We've been his puppets through this journey. Thy word is a lampt unto my feet and a light onto my path. Psalm 119:105

Day #36 Today's devotional reminded me that I have captured God's heart. He had given me the gift of LIFE. He has given me the gift of my body and my family. By giving me these gifts He expects me to care for these gifts for His glory. I have failed to do one of these for too long and am now excited at recognizing where I have failed as I move forward making some major life transformations. God's Holy Spirit dwells in me and His Word guides me. God has listened to my requests for help and He has delivered. He has prepared a path for me that I am eager to be on and so excited about completing and enduring for the rest of my life. This morning was so exciting for me as I knew I'd be completing my final video. I knew that I was in the final week of the challenge and knew that I had achieved a fraction of my goals towards my big goal and the finish line was a bit closer. I shared in today's video that I'm down 7# and 13 1/4inches! I can totally feel it in my clothes and anyone can recognize it in my attitude and personality! I'm so HAPPY! Voting will begin soon and I'd love your support by voting for me as the Grand Winner as I know that I want to continue working with Mark Haner and attending his boot camps and I want this year to be my year of becoming fit and confident again. I'm on the right path and it's the path that I believe my heavenly Father has laid out for me. "There are many rooms in my Father’s house; I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me so that you may be where I am" John 14:2–3. Be sure to follow me on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Everett-WA/Vote-for-Katie-Jones-on-the-Spirit-40-Day-Health-Fitness-Challenge/221991637013?ref=nf for soon to be posted pictures of my hair makeover. Day #33.... one more thought as I sit here with my daughter and we talk about "things". Give us clean hands, give us pure hearts, let us not llift our souls to another. God let us be a generation that seeks, seeks your face. Oh, God of Jacob.
FLAG THIS PERMALINK Katie said on 13.02.10
Day #33 brings rejuvenation and joy. I just returned home from boot camp early this morning and my dear friend, Dawn joined me. Yeah Dawn! It was awesome to work out alongside of her. We're know as the "Airport Friends". Not sure what happened to Esther this morning... must have slept in. After boot camp I headed to the Olympus Day Spa for some time with God. I love getting there when they first open and sometimes being the first or only one in a room. It's so peaceful. My favorite is the sand room, then the charcoal room, followed by the Cabin and Chill Rooms. I hit the Jade room before leaving and today I took a short 20minute nap in the meditation room. Awww... so nice. I'm so gonna miss this blessing when the challenge is over. I wish access to the spa was granted to the Grand Winner knowing how much we have all benefited from it during these past 6 weeks. Monday is my makeover day. Tasha Ehoff from Elle Marie will be doing my hair (cut and color) and Mandy Stocker will be providing me some waxing services. She has her own business and also does skincare at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery. I'm so looking forward to Monday. Now it's time to play and enjoy my family. Tomorrow is my day of rest so not sure that I will blog as it's also Valentine's Day and I need to prepare my gourmet dinner for my wonderful husband. It will be a special day. Hope yours is blessed too. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. . .And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. - excerpts from 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 Katie

Day #31....I'm reminded today.... God's love for me. “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 28:1-2, NKJV). God calls me to obey Him because He loves me and wants the best for me. He knows my discomfort, he knows my pain. He knows my needs. Today I missed my 1st boot camp as I needed to stay home and rest my muscle that is still hurting. Off to see my chiropractor in a few minutes and then spend tonight at the Olympus Spa with my friend Jessica (Happy Birhtday Jessica). We will relax. Praying for healing. Katie

Day #30 has some answers. My chest pains are a result of a hurt muscle in my chest. I have has this before (after my son, Jared was born & carrying a big baby, a diaper bag & breast pump around everywhere). My muscle needs time to heal so I will be taking it easy. Praying for God's healing. I got some new results on the scale this morning. My husband assured me that our old scale was broken & to go buy a new one. I got on it this morning and it shows that I'm now down 6.2#. That is assuming my baseline & starting number were accurate. We will never know. But that is exciting because my shirts are ALL big (sleeves too long) and tops (too low). My pants all need belts. Yeah! I am going to try to go walking today with Amie and enjoy my day with my kids.

Day #29.... home from boot camp. It was fun to have Sara & Esther there with me this morning. We missed you Lois! Welcome back Ginny! Praying for you. Need prayer today. I have an orthodontist appointment with my oldest this morning then it is going to be a down day. I'm not feeling very well and I can hear the Lord whispering, "Slow down... you need a day of rest." So I will be obedient. I will turn off the phones, turn off the computers and rest today while I can. I will cuddle with my precious children and then join my husband tonight for a dinner out. As I shared in today's video, satan attacks us all for different reasons. Please be praying for us and covering each of us ladies and our families in prayer. Katie

Day #28 The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid." The voice of truth says, "This is for my glory. " Out of all the voices calling out to me, I will choose to listen to the VOICE OF TRUTH. Oh, what I would do to have the kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant.... This is a great way to start my blog. I love this song! Thank you Jesus for giving me what I need to hear at the exact right time. Today is a challenging and overwhelming day for me - balancing my responsibilites at home. My MIL left this morning after a great visit over a few days. Had a lot of fun. But reality kicks in now - many, MANY phone calls to make, emails to reply to, things to do, errands to run, laundry to wash, meals to plan. My goal for today is to drink my water and have a great day with my kids as I pack them in the van and head out for the ENTIRE day! I will exercise and get to bed early tonight and am looking forward to that. Praying for God to help me find balance in my life - a new balance of my priorities inside my home. Day #25! Wahoo! Wow, do I feel GREAT! I have more energy, more self-esteem & confidence & LOVE to do my workouts. I was told that I would get to this point one day & I was hoping it would happen soon. It's now here! I've had a jam packed day with play tickets this morning & a lunch date with my son, Jared. Then haircut day for my boys. Speech with my daughter, Karlye. Thankfully my mother-in-law is here to make dinner tonight plus she & my oldest daughter, Emma are redecorating her room (that involves paint). I can't wait to do an oatmeal facial tonight (that I learned from Mandy Stocker) because I have 2 little visitors on my face this week. I NEVER get zits. It must be the sweating & oils. My arms are smaller! Yeah! Still need to get a lot of water in for today. Doing cardio and blogging on my 1 minute breaks between then I"m out the door to run to the grocery store & finish up my TO DO LIST. Tomorrow is boot camp at 8am. I'm looking forward to that then visiting the Olympus Spa. The afternoon will be a date time with my husband at Starbucks as we do our monthly meeting (paying bills/budgeting,setting goals & going over calendars). Today is day #24.... just got home from my work out this morning at boot camp. It was awesome to see my buds Sara & Lois there again. Please pray for GInny as she didn't make it this morning & was at the ER instead. Praying for quick body healing. MIssed you Esther! Saturday! Today I have my MIL in town visiting from Florida and we'll spend time together, grocery shop and plan with the kids. If the weather is good (and not too cold for her) maybe I can convince her to go for a walk with me. We'll see. Got half my water intake already down and ready to conquer the rest. Tonight is a marriage ministry meeting for my husband and I as well. Today I'm praying and seeking wisdom for some things that preoccupy my mind - God's Word tells me - I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. Psalm 16:7 Teach me your way, O LORD: lead me in a straight paith because of my oppressors. Psalm 27:11 Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Pslam 43:3 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Pslam 90:12 I am your servant; give me discernment that i may understand your statutes. The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Pslam 119:125, 130 For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Be blessed today! Today is day #23! My desires for today are to be a joyful mother. My bible verse for today are "Delight yourself in the LORD and he will giv eyou the desires of you heart. I have just finished my cardio workout at home and feel GREAT! My walking partner is not feeling well (praying for you Amie) & I hope she's up and better tomorrow afternoon. I"ve got a busy day ahead as I prepare for my Mother-In-Law to arrive tonight to spend a few days with us. I will be visiting the Olympus Spa tonight & relaxing while kiddos are at Awana's & my incredible husband picks up his mom at the train station. GInny, Tammie, Kat & I carpooled to Pullyallup last night to attend the first Extreme Makeover By God workshop sponsored by Millennium Valley Chiropractic. It's been awesome to work together & hold each other accountable in this challenge. We are not on a race against one another, but for one another & doing this side by side. It's been a blessing to have this support system. We came away with a step by step book for 40 days on how to take better care of ourselves. Their program seems very easy to follow & one that offers a lot of great tips, ideas and is backed up bibilically (which is a plus). I am praying how to incorporate that program into my already established program with Mark. Should be FUN with great results! Yesterday I shared that I was dow 9 1/4inches & only 5 pounds, but I tell ya, I feel it in my clothes! I know that I've lost more but my scale isn't showing it yet. I can't wait to see when it will show me a lower number because I feel smaller and thinner. A big thing for me that I noticed last night while applying my makeup to go out, was my double chin. It's still there, no doubt, but it IS smaller! Yeah! I will defintely need new pants next month at this rate. Be blessed today. Be encouraged. Make the best of your day and take care of your body. Day #22. God's Word reminds me .... But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. Psalm 3:3 I will instruct and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel and watch over you. Psalm 32:8 For the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared. Proverbs 3:26 In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Isaiah 40:29 Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Isaiah 50:7a Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Colossians 4:5 Cardio done this morning. Intense workout with my girlfriend, Amie. We're working on a regular routine. Today we took our strollers and 4yr old boys. I liked it. Make it intense but it felt good to push something at the same time. I had a really difficult time waking up this morning so I will likely nap this afternoon to prepare my body for boot camp tomorrow at 6:30. It's going to be hard to wake up at 5AM! Please LORD, provide me with the strength and rest that I need. Plan to drink lots of water today! My menu plan today had whole wheat waffles! Yummy! My kids love those days. Day #21 is our DAY OF REST! We've just returned home from church, fed the family & did some light housework. Now hubby & I are sitting down to review the week ahead. My Mother-In-Law arrives from Florida to spend the week with us. That will be enjoyable. (Maybe we she will take the Christmas tree down for me). It's actually a joke now to see how long it will last... smells & looks WONDERFUL still (although it's decorated for Valentines). I have to share that the past few days the Lord has had many people come to me & offer encouragement. WOW! People that I don't know to people that I know very well. Just having people ask me how I'm doing, what are my specific prayer requests for the week, how they can support/encourage me ... MEANS SO MUCH to me. My love language is defintely more of WORDS OF AFFIRMATION right now. It's a new change & it's not always been this (Acts of Service & Quality Time are typical) but as of lately - just hearing people cheer me on & encourage me has spoken so much to me. SO THANK YOU to all of you - my family, my friends, my supporters, Ginny, Kat & Tammie (the 3 other gals doing this alongside of me) and all sponsors who believe in ME. I just got home from the Olympus Day Spa and met Hillary there. She was familiar with Spirit's program and she and I talked about the "Mommy Guilt" syndrom that I have had today. I'm going to do something really CRAZY and out of character - for my family at least and I will admit, I will have a small bowl. But as I was at the spa today and relaxing I was reading a book to help me with that and it suggested to have a night that you serve BANANA SPLITS for dinner for the family - skip dinner (and the extra calories that you get from BOTH dinner & dessert) and do it once a year. So considering how my day has gone, I"m opting to do that tonight. I stopped at the store on the way home and bought a container of the family's favorite ice cream (not mine, I do NOT like mint anything) so I got them that and I will serve banana splits tonight with all the works for my family. I will have my planned chicken fettucine (and a small bowl of ice cream afterwards) before I take off to church for an event tonight. Thanks Hillary for the encouragement :) God is so good - 2 people encouraged me today that I didn't even know. God is so faithful.....

Thanks Kathryn, I'm about to go into the spa! Yeah! I've got babysitters lined up and will relax. Tonight I have a Women's Ministry event to attend at church tonight and spend the evening in felowship with other ladies. I have to share - someone made my day. Just awhile ago after my last post, I ran into a lady that noticed my brand new NEW BALANCE shoes and complimented me on them. I told her about the shoes and how I got them. She wrote down Spirit's website and told me she 'd go on to read about the challenge, follow me and vote for me. She also gave me some words of affirmation that was really what I needed to hear at that time - she told me how proud she was of me for doing this and taking care of myself. THANK YOU Jesus... Katie!

I know how tough it is to balance the needs of everyone. I'm also doing my best to listen to God as to what to let go of. But, don't be afraid to put yourself at or near the top of your list for these 40 days.

These 40 days will be over so quickly, and putting some of the everyday demands on hold for a while will not damage anyone or any friendships. Your real friends in Christ will know what you are doing and will support you -- even if that means you might not get back to them as quickly as you did in the past.

Praying for you today -- to figure out what is most important and follow where He would lead.

Day #19 is a bit overwhelming for me. I am struggling with balance & feeling like I can't do it all. I can't keep up with the many responsiblities, demands, etc. My husband reminds me that I am doing an amazing job. But I'm struggling with how do I go to the spa this afternoon when I can't catch up on filing, finish laundry, do speech therapy lessons, school work, my bible study, plan dinner and next weeks menus, make phone calls, reply to emails, AND give my children quality time. I want to be the BEST Mom & BEST WIfe to the most important people in my life on this earth... but how do I do it all. I need to remember to focus on my quiet time with God today and be quiet long enough to hear Him tell me what to let go of. Pray for me today please. I need to drink my water and exercise yet - but am feeling the pressure of having to pick which is most important to do first. I need the SPA, don't I? There is a bible verse that rings in my ears right now... James 1:19 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.... I need to listen to God today and slow to speak, make decisions & committments. I'm reminded of this challenge and how much it means to me - but as many know, we feel guilty when we place our personal needs over those other "important" pending things at home or in our life (be it volunteering in the community, school or even at church). Be blessed & encouraged today! Katie

Hang in there Katie!! You used to be able to do it all because you never put taking care of yourself into the mix. My new focus for myself is centered balance. God first, because His base is big enough to carry everything. Next me, my physical health and mental health. Then family. Then whatever else finds its way into my life. You can do this. Day #18! A bit of a challenging day today - life... kids....headache.... needing caffefine! Resolved. I took a walk today with my friend Amie in the neighborhood and had a good intense walk (up some good hills). Just finished my yummy salad and drinking my water. Tonight's dinner is shrimp kabobs (my husband will LOVE this). My kid issues are REAL today. One child put something inside another child's ear... this same child put beads in her own ear a few days ago. She knows better and today she did it to her brother! I had a panicking moment and thought we would have to go to the clinic but turns out we are good. Phil 4:6 tells us "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." I deal with anxiety with my self-esteem. It's getting better (thanks to this challenge) but when people expect so much from me, rely on me, depend on me - it kicks in. I have found that it's so hard to multi-task these days, it used to not be. I struggle with doing an email and talking, having multiple people talk to me at once (hello... that's a daily challenge of mine). Tonight I have bible study. I look forward to drinking all my water today and having a great afternoon with my kids. Praying for the other ladies and especially Ginny as she has an infection that she is dealing with right now. That is no fun. Be blessed and remember what Phil 4:6 says - let it be a word of encouragement for you today. Katie

I just talked with Matt. He called to check in on me and see how I was doing - I was in the mist of my cardio workout (and a bit out of breath) but we talked for awhile. Funny thing is, my phone hasn't rang all day but it rang twice during my workout - once to schedule my hair consultation with Tasha at Elle Marie who is doing my hair makeover for me on February 19th! I've had a very productive day and realize it's only 2:30! I went grocery shopping (at 2 different stores), made french toast for my kids for lunch, (had a buffalo burger myself), baked chocolate chip cookies for my husband (shhh..it's a surprise for when he comes home) and then froze some cookie dough for me (shh.. .another surpriise), Thankfully I'm not tempted to these things. PRAISE GOD! My kids have cleaned their rooms, laundry is done, little ones are napping and now it's off to take a shower, finish cleaning out my closet (that I mentioned earlier) and then make dinner. Tonight will be BUSY! Awana's! Tomorrow I'm going walking inplace of my boot camp with my friend Amie. Sure looking forward to it. Have a SUPER day! Katie

Day #17 .... As I was at the Olympus Day Spa on Monday, I was reading a book that shared something that I wanted to share with you. It said, "The body is God's handiwork. We have a responsibility to take care of it and to present ourselves in a way that will compliment the Kingdom of God. How we appear on the outside reflects our integrity and competence." WOW! That was so awesome to read and be reminded. As most of the Moms in today's world, we are SO busy and taking care of ourselves is the ABSOLUTE last thing on our list. I remember how life was BEFORE kids... I had a job outside of the home, a decent wardrobe & went shopping for new clothes often, I seldom wore sweats and tennis shoes, I took care of my skin, I wore make up and fixed my hair - but since the days of being a stay-at-home, it's too easy to not have a need to leave home and to not fix our hair (or put a cap on or pony tail), throw on some moisturizer (and no pretty colors), and stay in our sweats. Am I right? Our kids love us no matter what. I'm making some transformations right now. Thank you to SPIRIT for this challenge. The motivation, desires and drive is there but the PUSH is what this challenge is giving me. My goals for this week and next are to get my exercise down early in the morning, shower and get dressed for the day (completely dressed in a way that my husband will notice the shirt tucked in when he comes home with a bett around my waist). I plan to go through my closest and find out what he doesn't like and does like and do away with what he doesn't like (or wear when he's not home). My focus is improving my self-esteem and confidence by feeling good about who I am and what I look like. Off to schedule my consultation for my hair makeover. Got two days scheduled for the transformation Feb. 18/19th. Join my FB page for photo updates! The book reminded me, "....there's no reason to postpone being the best you can be, right now!" I will start TODAY! Going to make a special treat for my husband today and surprise him (chocolate chips cookies and some frozen cookie dough) and I will give them to him tonight with his favorite Energy Juice as we go to serve at Awana's tonight at church. Buffalo Burgers for lunch today with a salad! Yum! Katie

Day #16. BOOT CAMP is done! French Toast for breakfast & ready to take on the challenges of today. Laundry, Awana's sign making, schooling, food planning & some shopping (new blender and groceries). I'm a super busy volunteering Mom. I just told my friend that my life is upside down right now - but it's all good. It's a new kind of good. Today my heart is heavy as I'm praying for a handful of friends who need prayer - The Bodgers, Buchananas, Stacie, Jennifer, Graleys, and Tami are just a few that come to mind. I always enjoy my drive into boot camp to talk with the Lord and to pray for my day and for people in my lives. I ask him to make me his puppet during boot camp training and to provide me with that extra strength that I need to push or pull. He never lets me down. Today we recorded video #3 so that will be on the site soon. I have a handful of friends who want to come to boot camp with me YAHOO! I'm so excited to have you ladies there with me. Tammie joined Ginny & I today at boot camp too and it was nice to see her again. She is looking great. I hope that not only are you reading and keeping up on us ladies, but you're praying and being encouraged to take care of yourself too. For me - this is a transformation so that I can be all that the Lord wants me to be, to serve HIM better and to glorify Him, My motto - I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you. Isaiah 41:10a That fits my life today where I am with the pain in my leg. Thank you Jesus for your Word.

Day #15 - being real. Today is hard because my shin splint on my left calf is still hurting a lot. I'm icing it and massaging it. I'm on a NO CARB day so had my yummy eggs and sausage for breakfast. Chicken tonight for dinner & tuna for lunch. Drinking my water. Going to try my cardio today and see if my leg can handle it. Got TONS of emails from friends to join me at Boot Camp - Lois is signed up already for the 2nd! I can't wait to exercise with you gals. I'm looking forward to going to Olympus Spa this afternoon too. Hubby is home to take my older kids to see a George Washington play this afternoon. I'm so blessed. Thank you Jesus. It's also Monday and the list of things to do is long - I need to pay some medical bills, make some appointments & schedule a consultation with Tasha Ehoff for my hair makeover, schedule time with Mandy Stocker for waxing for my makeover (this all will be so much fun)! Thanks ladies for your generousity and donation of services! Again, I'm reminded of my favorite verse - I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Blessings on your day! Today is Day #14. It' s my day of rest & boy, did I need it. I still have shin splints on my left calf. I'm massaging it (thank to my awesome husband) and icing it and it has helped. The right leg is better. Just got home from church where we celebrated Adoption today and had a great reception afterwards with others touchbed by adopiton. Tonight we have our community group & it will be nice to hook up with everyone. Thanks again for the emails and comments that everyone is making - it really encourages me. I pray that my leg is well for tomorrow's cardio intervals. Time to eat dinner (tuna steak fish, cauliflower, green salad and fresh green beans). I can't wait! Hubby is making dinner as I type. Until tomorrow - Katie

Today is Day #13! I just got home from boot camp, then off to breakfast with my friend Sara and time at the Olympus Spa. It was crowded! I was able to relax & read my bbile study. I'm suffering from shin splints so will be sitting more than walking today. I guess it's a result of doing my cardio intervals on Friday around the neighborhood. So Mark has told me to stay in place for awhile doing my cardios. Some friends of mine (Sara, Olga, Lois and possibly Aimee & Kim) are interested in joining me for the free 2week trial of boot camp. I'm so excited about this. It will be fun to do together. Today my husband called to tell me how thankful he was that I had this opportunity & that we are in a place where he can help me to go to boot camp, care for the kids, work his schedule around spa time and such and that I was focusing on myself. It was long overdue. It was great to hear this as I was driving from breakfast to the spa... not feeling guilty one bit. Thank you Jesus for my gifts you have given me. Tomorrow will be my day of rest and Orphan Sunday at our church (Snohomish Community Church). I'm looking forward to spending time with other families who share the passion of adoption. Now off to do my facial that Mandy Stocker told me about (see my facebook page - VOTE FOR KATIE JONES. Blessings on your day.

Psalm 118:24 "This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." What a great day I have had so far today. My hives are gone. My body is in good shape. I just finished my cardio interval. I recorded it onto my son, Jared's MP3 player and bundled the kids up and we went outside in the neighborhood to do it. Worked out great - a bit more challenging as my rest periods weren't really rests as I was "walking" and then "light run/jog" on the exercise moments. I was glad when it was over and need another shower! Today we will meet some friends for our homeschool social and meet new guests. Then it's Friday Night and that means game night at our house. Dinner is in the crockpot (pork roast). I'm on my NO CARB day and looking forward to it. No more headaches! I'm excited to schedule my hair makeover with Tasha Ehoff at Elle Marie in Mill Creek. She's going to donate her services to me mid February for a new look. I'm so excited at the perks that I'm receiving to transform me. The scale says I'm down 5# and I'm so excited. I will be heading to Olympus Spa in Lynnwood tomorrow after bootcamp again. I'm also excited that some friends want to join me for bootcamp soon. If you're interested, contact me or Mark Haner directly at Aim to Fit and let him know you want the free 2 week trial to work alongside of Katie! Okay prayer warriors - I need you today. I suffer from many food allergies (many foods I'm told to avoid but don't really know what will happen to me should I eat it). Well, I have been suffering from hives outbreaks for days now and today it went to another level. My face is swollen and my eyes are almost shut. I came home from boot camp & crashed. My hubby helped set up the kiddos for me to get my much needed rest. Lunch time came & he noticed my eyes & made me take Benadryl and hang low for today. My blood pressure is high & we are questioning the cause of my hives - salmon, tuna, bananas or whey. I will have to come up with a modified dinner tonight. It's frustrating because I've been enjoying the fabulous meals I'm making (and love seafood but haven't been told that I"m allergic to any kind but oysters). My body does have issues with eating sodium and seafood from the Atlantic Ocean has made me terrilby ill before where I have landed in the hospital. SO please pray for me today for my hives to go away & for us to figure out which food is causing this sympton & to avoid it in the future. Boot Camp was this morning and a bit of a challenge. Mark took us to a whole new level. I'm exhausted! Today is a day that I want to focus on Thankfulness. The verse that I'm focusing on today is "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15. I am so thankful for many things. My God - through Him all things are possible. None of this would be happening to me if it weren't for my devoted faith and belief in HIM. My husband, McLean who is my biggest cheerleader in this challenge & helps me wherever he can. My children - for their support, love & understanding of Mommy taking care of herself during this challenge. Mark with AIMS FITNESS for working with me & the other glas. Don't forget you can come workout with me for FREE for 2 weeks. Just let me know! OLYMPUS SPA in Lynnwood for the gift of 2 visits a week for 6 weeks. (I wil be there 2x a week). What a gift of restoration & relaxation that our bodies need. NEW BALANCE for my new 855 tennis shoes. I have been wearing them since Saturday and what a difference they make in walking, running errands, workouts, etc. I"m thankful for tho other sponsors & gifts they are still coming our way through this challenge. I'm also thankful for the supporters that are encouraging me on this journey. Remember to be thankful today for the gifts the Lord has given you. Take the time to let someone know how thankful you are for having them in your life or thank them for something that they have done for you. Blessings, Katie

Day 10 - I have to say, yesterday was an AWESOME & perfect day in all aspects. I loved it. It's now my ideal day that I want to model each day. Today is starting out just as great. PRAISE GOD! Kids are doing school work & those done are playing outside in the sunshine! Another Praise! Cardio Intervals are done. Planning to visit Olympus Spa tonight. Breakfast was fabulous (homemade blueberry muffins). Tonight is Fish Tacos. I have to tell ya, I'm a homemade kinda gal. Due to many food allergies in my family & myself, I"ve had to make most of our stuff from scratch,. So today I woke up & made up those muffins & baked them in the oven... what a scent! The food plan is really turning out to be a treat (I'm a natural planner) so having it done for me is great. I love plans! I just read my devotional for today & it was about accountability. That is so important in order to succeed in anything. It said, "Don’t be afraid to call or be called to accountability. We can run to God, our help. God is sovereign and He is the great redeemer. No matter how bad a situation is, if He is invited in, at any point, He will come in and redeem the situation, work things out for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28). He can put a de-railed train back on the tracks." I also wanted to share that I was in a ladies bible study & they were starting the study on Esther by Beth Moore. I heard it was very intense. I wanted to go for the fellowship & learning but I was fearful of my time availability. The night before my husband & I decided it was not wise to do this study right now. Then a friend told me about another study "Friendships of Women" & my heart fell. I'm so passionate friendships & the Lord knows what my heart desires. So I attended it last week for the 1st mtg. It was in the evening & I was exhausted. I've decided to do the study but only part of it by just reading the book & coming to discussions instead of doing the study book during these 40 days to help w/my load. I know the Lord has me here for a reason. He knows my heart & He is going to reward me through this study. I am so excited. So while I struggle with balancing my responsiblities - I have found ways to adjust to do what the Lord has called me to do. I'm reminded yet again in Proverbs 3: 5 & 6 tells us to “trust in the Lord with your whole heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight”. So as I go to continue my day I pray that yours is blessed. If anyone has tips on a good pedometer (that has a clip that won't easily break please let me know. Also about Caffefine free Diet Coke fountains. Don't forget to follow me on FB at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Everett-WA/Vote-for-Katie-Jones-on-the-Spirit-40-Day-Health-Fitness-Challenge/221991637013?ref=ts where I will have tips coming from some who are supporting me in many ways on this challenge. Thank you Janet for reminding me about the caffefine option. Since I prefer it fountain over ice, I need to figure out which fast food locations/restaurants have Caffefine Free Diet Coke in their pumps. I know there is someplace, but I have drawn a blank. Anyone know? Please do tell. I'm thinking Shell gas station maybe at Thomas Lake next to Albertsons? Please do reply if you know of any other locations. Today's update to come soon.

Okay, been off on my day count. The Challenge started Jan. 11th. I started my boot camp on the 12th, so have been counting from that day. So today is actually day #9. I have returned from boot camp and had a tough workout, but good. Mark pushed us well today. (I really like Mark). I especiially enjoyed my ride home watching the sunrise & planning my day. Might to see the movie premiere tonight w/Spirit. We recorded another video segment for week 2. I didn't have time to think about my questions & now that I have I can add more to it - *The challenges I faced in my first week were headaches, trying to eliminate drinking my Diet Coke daily (to every 2 days) and balancing my life w/my many responsbilities. I have a lot. I lead a homeschooling group & am trying to delegate tasks & only attend what is absolutely necessary at this time. I'm having to say no to lots of request for helping with that, at church & just in other areas. I'm prioritizing. I'm finding that I need to go to bed early and get my proper rest. I am struggling to keep up w/the emails & phone calls that I used to be able to. *My successes have been my self-esteem & confidence. That has been HUGE! It's changed my attitude, my outlook & even how I feel doing anything. My husband loves it & is my biggest cheerleader. *My challenges for Week 2 will be to continue w/the discipline of exercising each day & making it come naturally. To not push it off till later in the day but getting it done early (but w/kids at home & the distractions it still gets pushed off till later than I want). i do crave into my Diet Cokes about every 2 days. I was told that if I can go 3 days then the headache will be gone & I will be good to go. The food plan has adjustments that I'm learning. I learned that fruits are like carbs and am working on eating more fruits on the right days. Finding balance that is right for my body and for my mind. I spend time with the Lord each morning & workout mornings are no different. We talk intimately on my drive into camp. I ask for Him to hold my hand & push & encourage me. I hear Him whisper. I hear Him remind me that He has my back. He pulls me up when I need that pull or that push. He reminds me that He is with me every step of the way. I often hear him faithfully tapping on my heart – “I’m here- turn to me.” Oh, how I love you Jesus! I want to thank those of you leaving comments, those who are on my Facebook page and the emails that I'm receiving with encouragement. I have a friend, Lisa Salizbury, who is also a personal trainer that is sending me emails w/tips, encouragement & answering questions as I go through this challenge. I contacted her immediately when I was chosen into the 8 asking for her support & help through this. While she see's how awesome Mark is & how he's working with me -she's there to spiritually encourage me. She's there to emotionally encourage me and for anything else that I may need from her. Thank you Lisa! Your comments really help me more than you would imagine. Keep them coming because knowing you believe in me inspires me so much. Have a blessed day! Katie

Day 6 - I just finished my at home work out that Mark gave me. Have I mentioned how awesome Mark is? Mark Haner with Aims Fitness is providing the personal training and motivation for us on this 40 Day Challenge. He has dedicated to work with us 4 ladies to help us to better ourselves. I really have enjoyed working with him and can see me working longer with him. He knows how to push you, challenge you and he is sensitive to listen to you when you need to talk. He's very supportive and I feel so priviledged to have this opportunity to work with him. So today's goals will be to finish schooling at home (no, we didn't take the day off) and drink my 96 oz of water and go buy some beez wax for my kids art project! It's fun to have the family all together too with my husband home today. I also wore my new tennis shoes today for my workout (with slipcovers since it was indoors). Need to get a pedometer (a good one that the clip won't break off - suggestions anyone?) and also get an MP3 Player with headsets for Mark's audio training. Off to go hunt for some good deals!

Sunday is one of my favorite days. Today is my first day "off" from workouts. I'm getting ready to go to church with my family, we attend Snohomish Community Church. I was reading my devotional today and it talks about the Bible, God's Word. It is our ultimate soure of truth. The book to turn to for guidance and for direction. Sometimes it's overwhelming and hard to understand. It is a very BIG book. But it is such a powerful tool for us in the many different seasons of our lives. God always has words of wisdom for us to follow. Romans 15:4 reminds us - “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope”. Bless your day. I pray you have a day of rest. Katie.

Headaches are hard to figure out as you know. I hope a massage helped. Try neck stretches--looking down and holding for at least 15 seconds, ear to shoulder etc. Also check your shoulders they should be down and back. Doing some shoulder rolls might help too. If it is caffeine related perseverance is the best you can do. Rest should help too. Enjoy your day of rest.

Day 4: Great day full of rewards. Challenging workout. Met Tammie, Kat and Ginny at Olympus Spa and spent hours sharing & encouraging one another along. Today was day 3 on my meal plan and a no carb day for me. Planned meals wisely for being gone for breakfast.; I had some protein early morning before leaving the hosue then pulled into McDonald's and ordered a sausage/egg biscuit w/out the biscuit! I snacked on my veggies, almonds (so far so good on my hives) and mozzarella stick while at the Spa. Ginny and I went to New Balance and got our new tennis shoes! YEAH! We wore them out. I can't wait to wear them and go walk and see how much they help me. Tomorrow is my day of rest and I'm looking forward to that. Sunday is our family day so we'll do something as a family like walk or go on a hike (weather permitting). I could use prayer for a headache that won't go away but that is lingering. I'm sure it's caffefine related. I did have a small Diet Coke at the mall today but only felt okay doing so after knowing I had drank my 96oz of water already. It's been over 8 hours and I still have it after a rest at home. I would love to hear advice on these headaches. A word that I'm focusing on right now (with my headache) is perseverance . It means to continue in spite of difficulties, in spite of my headache. I believe perseverance is what it is going to take for me tonight to not give in. Okay, I'm only human :) When challenges arise, it will take perseverance to believe God’s heart is good and His ways are perfect. Perseverance will help you love and obey His leading. The book of 2 Thessalonians is an encouragement in perseverance. No matter how you view perseverance – it 's not an easy thing to do. But set in your mind to resolve it. Have a plan. Resolve this weight issue. Resolve this headache. To persevere is a choice that I make. It's an attitude that I make, saying,, ‘thus far, the Lord has led me’ and I will choose to follow Him. (See 1 Samuel 7:12-14). Praying for perserverance tonight. Paaying for the people of Haiti. Praying for Tammie, Kat and Ginny. Day 3 brings so much EnERgy! I was buzzing this morning like a little girl going to Disney World! I stepped on a scale and I think that I'm down 2-3# already. YEAH! I feel great. I'm drinking 96-128oz water daily. I'm waking up w/a headache though. Got to figure that out. I started the menu plan yesterday and day #1 was fantastic and day #2 is going great so far. Tomorrow morning is boot camp, spa time with hopefully all 3 of the other gals and then off to get my New Balance tennis shoes. I can't wait! A friend of mine contacted a friend of hers who does skincare/waxing (Mandy Stocker at Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery and she is so excited to give me a day of waxing at the end of my 40 Day Challenge. I am so excited. Funny is Mandy voted for me through word of mouth from a mutual friend of ours and is now excited to help me acheive my goals. I am SO EXCITED! My heart is heavy too for the people of Haiti right now. I'm in a time of celebration and excitement with tons of energy, but I can't help but to stop and think about those hurting right now - many. People trying to be found, people in pain from injury, people homeless, hungry, thirsty and just needing to another human to find them and bring comfort or a sip of water. Please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers and consider donating to World Concern and finding out how you can help. It's the least we can do to our brothers and sisters. We are all His children. I do have a prayer request for myself - I have food allergies and I am breaking out in hives and we're trying to figure out exactly from what. I have a peanut allergy (we do not know how severe) and I have had a little bit of peanut butter but I have also had almonds. Food rotation/elimination time. Please pray that God will make it clear what my body can handle and what it cannot. Again, thank you for your support for me and for reading my posts. I was able to relax tonight at the Olympus Spa. I did some reading. I had some quiet time with God. I listened to Spirit. I stopped by my church as I dropped off kiddos at Awana's - God presented me with these verses tonight as I escaped into the fantasty of being alone at the spa to relax tonight (and it was okay to do so). Psalm 37:23-24 says, "If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. Psalm 66:19 NIV says "God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer." 1 Timothy 4:8 reminds me ... Training the body has some value.... As I was reading 2 books tonight (and drinking my water) I thought about how motivated I am right now. Then I realized that motivation is what gets you all ready, all excited fro the challenge or project but then it's the habit that is formed through the motivation and support system that keeps you going and gets you to your goal. I have always been told that it takes 21 days to build a habit or to thoroughly break a habit. It is exactly during these times that we need the support, encouragement and prayers of friends who will not allow us to give up, but will with conviction, help us stand and win when we feel overwhelmed and discouraged.. Tonight I will sleep well as I had a sucessful day. I did some meal planning from the menu Mark provided. I did some shopping. I got my exercise and water in (32oz x 4). That is HUGE for me. I even got to have a special date with my son Jared and am looking forward to boot camp tomorrow morning. The alarm will go off very soon. Time to go to bed for some rest. Until tomorrow - Katie

I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO GIVES ME STRENGTH.... what a verse. I tell ya, that is one of my favorites. I quoted that verse over and over loudly to myself while I laid on a gurney in the doctor's office last Monday night as my ingrown toenail was being tackled. I remind myself of this verse each time I have to speak in front of people, I use this verse over and over and today yet again as I was doing my 1st Work Out at home. What a blast I had! I tell ya - 3 of my kiddos were cheering me on. I do have a funny story to share though. Okay. I had to sprint in place for many intervals. The first one I did with my eyes shut. Kids watching. Large TV screen in front of me. GO! I heard "STOP!" I was clueless as to who needed to stop and why. It was ME! My daughter, Emma was telling me to STOP because I was no longer running in place but running towards the large TV screen. What a laugh we all had. I didn't close my eyes after that one but I did them all. My headache is gone. I've talked to Mark, my personal trainer and am getting ready to go take my son, Jared to see a play and enjoy some one on one time together. I do need to go shopping for a new sports bra today before hitting the spa tonight! My water intake is almost there for the day too. Thanks for your comments. Keep them coming. It SO motivates me. YOU motivate me. I'm truly having a BLAST!

Today will be a busy day for me as I prepare for a homeschool meeting tonight for a group that I lead as well as gather my supplies to kick start tomorrow morning. So I will be in France (via books), studying reptiles and reading through the book of Matthew with my children this morning. I don't know what is for dinner tonight but will figure that out along with it's calories and plan my days for the spa this week too. I've got sveral calls to make from friends cheering me on and many calling to see how they can encourage and help me along. Here's to my Monday! I hope your week starts off on a good too. Thank you Jesus!

Since receiving the news about being in the Top 4 I have been so excited. THANK YOU for voting for me. I have had the opportunity to communicate with the other 3 ladies and we are setting goals of how we can encourage and work with one another. I will start my boot camp training on Tuesday morning. I'm not a typical early riser, so please pray for me as I start at 6:30AM! Ginny and I will be attending boot camp training together. Success Report: Day 2 of drinking all my water and not having a Diet Coke until I was done! This is huge for me. I appreciate your prayers and comments. Until next time ....

Hi Katie~ I am thrilled you made it in the top 4. Thanks for your comments and encouragement. I can't wait to start this journey and go through this together. I joined the yahoo group- what a great idea. I was thinking about the same thing this morning. Do you know which bootcamp you will be attending? I think it would be great if all 4 of us could do it together but totally understand time and family commitments. take care and I look forward to walking togetther.

Katie~ thanks so much for your words. This has been a great week to read the comments- read each others stories, so very similar alot of sacrifice to put others first. What ever happens I think for each of us it is a new starting point and a change that is long overdue. Good luck and I will be cheering for you as well as the other women. too bad not all 8 of us could do this together.

Thanks Katie for the kind words . Soon we will know who will be making this incredible journey. I know that even if I am not selected as one of the four that time has come for me to put myself first for once . As a Navy Wife and mom to little ones that is hard but the time has come. I wish you all of the best of luck and hopefully we will be making this journey together in the final four.. God's rich blessing upon you ...

The Lord spoke to me last night & reminded me that the desires of improving myself come from the Lord. Acts 11:23 says, "When he arrived and saw the evidence of the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts." I was reminded how important it is to encourage one another. I am so exciting about the comments/emails/posts I've received about people relating to my story & from those of you who know exactly who I feel & the season of life that I am in right now. This is all so encouraging to me right now & I can only imagine to the others as well. Go ladies!

GO KATIE GO!! I use to work with your mother in law and she can attest that I am a HUGE supporter of getting healthy for YOU! You only have one body, one chance...this is your time!! Positive attitude, support from others and always asking yourself if "The calories are worth that bite!" :) Do this now! No time like the present and remember just because no one else sees you take "that bite" doesn't mean it doesn't count. You would only be cheating yourself. :) This is how I live my life...JOIN ME! I love the way I feel! I am so excited for you and I don't even know you. I am cheering you on girl!! Go get em!! YOU CAN DO THIS!
