_____
David Payne returns C.S. Lewis with his new drama, Tolkien and Lewis: Wardrobes, Rings, and the Last Goodbye. Written by Payne, it is set in Oxford’s Eagle and Child pub, a favorite haunt of C. S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien (Gordon Tett) where these two giants of Fantasy Literature formulated many of their ideas. Following Lewis’ heart attack they are reuniting for what turns out to be the very last time: it is a time to reflect on the inspiration behind their writings, their lifelong friendship and so much more. And all interspersed with the humor for which both were renowned. No English pub is complete without a bubbly barmaid and Hattie (Audrey Ney) is a welcome interruption to the proceedings.
