The thief on the cross next to Jesus.
Each got a second chance because of their connection with Jesus in his final week of earthly life.
Barabbas got set free when the crowd overwhelmingly chose Jesus for the cross rather than him.
That thief? The one who had undoubtedly burned thousands of chances to make something decent out of his life- with his final breath, he figured it out- that Jesus really was the Way to eternal life. He asked that he not be forgotten, and Jesus responded with a key to the Gate.
Peter- broken down, and bitterly weeping over tasting the sole of his own sandal, after vowing to never deny Jesus. Peter is the reason I try to limit my use of the word NEVER. After all was said and done, Peter got the privilege of lighting the fire of the Church across the world.
Barabbas, the thief, Peter.
This Easter, the empty grave means YOU get a second, a third, a 917th chance to live in His plan. Jesus died and then came back to life as a reminder that you belong to Him and that victory over the struggle you are facing is possible when you, once and for all, loosen your grip on it and hand it over to Him. In fact, His great hope this Easter is to write you a new story of redemption, restoration, healing, and new life.
Even if you need another chance to get things right before Him.
