When I was considering marriage and children, I must admit that I never gave Christian education a thought. In my mind it was elitist, irrelevant and could not possibly prepare my children for the “real world”. Thirty-two years of teaching at Renton Christian School and two children (raised at Renton Christian School) later, I have learned that my misconception was exactly that – a huge misconception.
Renton Christian School is a community of parents, educators and administrators that share a common bond – the children. Our common goal is to see students thrive while at RCS, but more importantly, when they leave RCS. Our joy, as teachers, is to see many former students come to visit and share their lives with us. They feel safe, loved and cared about and often are seeking godly council to help them as they deal with a confusing and ever changing world. This is a testimony for the relevancy of RCS and Christian education. Former students, my children included, are standing strong in their world. I am very proud to be a part of such a community.
Renton Christian School teaches from a Biblical Worldview. Every subject is viewed through the lens of the Bible. From P.E. to history, from spelling to math, God is in and through it all. In math, we teach children that God created order and precision. In language arts, from phonics to research papers, we teach that God is the great communicator. In P.E., our bodies are the temple of the Lord. The list goes on and on. Everything must line up with the Bible. If it cannot be backed by scripture, we will not teach it as Truth.
I have learned a great lesson: Christian education is relevant and preparatory for children now more than ever before. Teaching children to view everything, through the lens of God’s Word, makes for adults who stand strong in their faith, no matter what comes their way.
