President-elect Donald Trump will meet with intelligence officials today about Russia’s attempt to use cyberattacks to influence the election. Trump, who has repeatedly voiced skepticism about the Russians’ involvement, said Tuesday that the briefing had been delayed, adding, ‘perhaps more time needed to build a case. Very strange!’
The historic election of Donald Trump as president becomes really, truly official today when a joint session of Congress meets to count the vote of the Electoral College and announce the results. Today’s action is a mere formality, since Trump surpassed the 270 electoral votes needed to win when the electors cast their ballots on Dec. 19. Trump critics had waged a vocal campaign to try to convince Republican electors to be ‘faithless’ and vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton or another candidate, but few did. Trump will be sworn in as president on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.
