President Barak Obama and the Japanese prime minister visted the Pearl Harbor memorial yesterday. They stood in silence and reflected on the attacks that took place there 75 years ago. Other Japanese leaders have visited pearl harbor before. This is significant because this is the first time one has visited the memorial above the sunken USS Arizona. Although he did not apologize for the attacks he did say ‘we must never repeat the horrors of war again’.
The lobby of Trump Tower had to be evacuated yesterday, after people spotted a suspicious package. The President Elect was not in the tower at the time, he is on vacation in Florida with most of his staff. After police were called to seen it was discovered that the package was a children’s back pack containing toys.
Actress Carrie Fisher passed away yesterday at the age of 60. She suffered a heart attack on a flight on Friday and was never able to recover. She is best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies. A role the she played at the young age of 19.
A Mount Vernon police officer who was shot earlier this month is showing signs of improvement. Officer Mike McClaughry’s family says that he appears to be breathing well on his own. The suspected shooter was arrested and charged earlier this month.
