After deciding to drop the case in state courts over the weekend, Jill Stein will take her battle for a statewide recount of presidential votes in Pennsylvania to federal courts on today. The recount campaign cited financial difficulties as the reason for dropping the state case. The group will argue for the recount on constitutional grounds. President-elect Donald Trump won Pennsylvania on Election Day, as well as Michigan and Wisconsin, two other states facing recount bids.
Dakota Access pipeline protesters had plenty to celebrate yesterday: The Army Corps of Engineers will stop construction on the controversial pipeline. U.S. veterans joined the tribe and protesters in North Dakota over the weekend. The tribe and its supporters fought the pipeline construction for at least two years —to defend the water and sacred lands they worried the pipeline would threaten.
Donald Trump announced today he has chosen former campaign 2016 rival Ben Carson to become secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.Trump said in his statement that he was “thrilled to nominate Carson,” adding that he “has a brilliant mind and is passionate about strengthening communities and families within those communities.”
