A series of cable cars carrying tourists stopped working at high altitude in the Alps yesterday, prompting a major rescue operation and leaving 45 people trapped in midair overnight in France. The cable cars stalled because of a technical problem. The helicopters rescued 65 people before the efforts were suspended for the night because of rough flight conditions. The rescue efforts are continuing today.
A car went over an embankment at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma. There were two people in their 70’s in the car which fell 150 feet. They were both rescued.
