Life has a rhythm to it. You can hear it everywhere… from the clack of a computer keyboard, to tires crossing onto a ferry, to a song on the radio… Our hearts are constantly drawn toward it. Subliminally, rhythm brings a sense of order and direction to things. Even the day-to-day routine of our lives develops a rhythm that, when it’s disrupted, causes us to feel “off”- like the violence across our nation last week.
Moments like that cause our hearts to recoil and reel, disturbing the rhythm of our heartbeat… for a time, we don’t know what to think or how to feel, how to process our emotions and how to make the promises of God fit into what’s taken place. Sorrow for what’s happened turns to anger or frustration, colliding with gratefulness that it didn’t happen to you.
Today, as I’ve struggled to find the words to share with you in light of the tragedy our nation has walked through lately, I’ve formed a prayer…
Lord, my heart is trying to beat with Yours… help me to live in time with the rhythm of Your heart.
The closer our heart beats in rhythm with His, the more we see His Glory all around us, and more importantly, we see clearly the people that Jesus died for with eyes of love and grace.
