I’ll be honest I have never really been an American Idol fan. My Mom however watched religiously and especially the finale last month! She was so excited to share with me. The only person I really wanted to see was Carrie Underwood. Now, I am a huge fan of her. Not only can the girl sing but she has such a heart for God. Her new song which she performed on the American Idol finale (video below) is called “Washed by the Water.” The song is about faith, redemption and baptism. She took a whole lot of flak for that performance. But not just because of the song but because at the very end she raised her hand to the sky and mouthed the words, “Thank you Lord.” Boy the haters came out in full force over that saying, “here she goes again Carrie is being too religious, she should keep Jesus to herself, and complained that she is too vocal about her faith. But this I love about Carrie…In response to the haters she tweeted, “Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight.”
Wow!! What an amazing example of what having faith and loving God is supposed to look like. Carrie did what we as believers are called to do. Love thy enemies and pray for them (Mathew 5:44). But you and I both know how hard loving our enemies can be sometimes. That is why I believe we need Jesus. Is there someone you could pray for that has wronged you? I’m off to pray for that someone right now.
