A British man whose picture of him smiling alongside the passenger who hijacked an EgyptAir short-haul flight went viral Tuesday said he was ‘not sure why’ he asked for a photograph. Ben Innes, a 26-year-old from the northern English city of Leeds, told The Sun newspaper that he was ‘trying to stay cheerful in the face of adversity’ when he approached 59-year-old Seif Eddin Mustafa.Mustafa had claimed to have explosives in his belt and forced the pilot to fly to Cyprus. The plane’s landing began a bizarre six-hour standoff with authorities, during which Mustafa made a series of demands described as ‘incoherent’ by Cyprus’s president. Nobody ended up hurt in the incident.
Many Americans are unaware of the basic facts about the Zika virus, which is spreading rapidly. While most people know that Zika is spread by mosquitoes, nearly one in three people mistakenly believe that it also can be spread by coughing or sneezing, like a cold—not true. Pregnant women and their babies have the greatest risk from Zika, which is linked to birth defects in Brazil. Zika virus can be transmitted by mosquitos and intimate contact.
Boeing says they plan to cut 4000 jobs in Washington by June. Managers and executives will be among those cut. Jobs at Boeing have been going to other states and getting cut over the past several years.
