By far the number one concern people have when they think about placing their child in private education is the cost. Most often when we talk about private schooling the objection is immediately raised: I can’t afford it.
Let’s unpack that for a minute. Like any big purchase decision in your life, affording something can be a matter of perspective and prioritization.
Perspective – Every choice you make means you aren’t choosing something else. The choice isn’t necessarily an easy one. But, buying one thing means you aren’t buying another. The matter of saying ‘I can’t afford it.’ becomes ‘I’m choosing something else.’ And, that is okay. Sometimes those choices are wants, sometimes they are needs.
Prioritize – Sitting down with your family to choose what is important in your lives is very valuable. Where do you want to place your time and money? If you say, ‘private education is something we want to prioritize’ then it is a matter of asking yourself what you can do to make it happen. For most private Christian schools in our area, the monthly tuition cost is about the same as an average car payment. What can you replace each month to help offset the cost?
The Budget – If you decide to want to make private education a priority and the budget doesn’t have the line item already, it’s time to think through your perspective again. Remember, if you choose private education it means you aren’t choosing something else. You know you want to prioritize it and that means you have to pull something else that isn’t as important. This could be…not buying a new car, not buying a house, making your coffee at home or adjusting other spending habits. Or, why not try some of these money saving and fundraising ideas: shop for new insurance, save your tax refund, check out the SPIRIT 105.3 Tuition e-Auction, start a GoFundMe account (you’ll be surprised at how many family and friends may rally behind you!), etc.
Financial Aid & Discounts – Don’t count yourself out just because the budget part might seem really difficult and almost impossible. We have a great tuition assistance program that is need based. And, we offer discounts for multiple students. We want to work with you. Call us so we can chat through the options.
