The Washington State Health Authority (HCA) said yesterday that an employee mishandled the Social Security numbers, dates of birth, Apple Health client ID numbers and private health information of 91,000 Apple Health (Medicaid) clients. Two employees at separate state agencies exchanged client files in violation of HIPAA, a breach that was discovered during a whistleblower investigation of the misuse of state resources. Once they breach was discovered they conducted an internal investigation, worked to notify clients and set up a free year of credit monitoring for anyone affected.
