Residents of Virginia, Arkansas test positive for Zika virus– The Virginia Department of Health said an adult resident had recently travled to a country where the Zika virus transmission was ongoing and added that residents were not at risk of catching the virus from the infected person. The Zika virus has been linked to brain damage in thousands of babies in Brazil, with researchers reporting an increase in a rare birth defect that causes babies to be born with abnormally small heads.
They don’t know how many people are still in the federal wildlife refuge in Oregon. The refuge was seized three weeks ago by anti-government activists led by Ammon Bundy. Police arrested Bundy and five other members of the group. On member was shot and killed during the arrest.
Police say two people were killed and three others were injured tonight in shooting at a Seattle homeless camp. No arrests have been made.
Police say two 13-year-old girls fought off a pair of would-be abductors Monday evening in the area of 22nd Avenue Southwest and Southwest Trenton Street. Two strangers grabbed them and tried to force them into a nearby yard. The girls fought back and were able to run home and tell their parents what happened. The girls told police the attackers were wearing hooded sweatshirts that obscured their faces, but they believe both were in their late teens and both about 5’7”
