Three journalists from Missouri are headed to Virginia to help out their colleagues in the wake of yesterday’s fatal shootings of Alison Park and Adam Ward. The staff members from KY3 and KSPR will assist WDBJ with its daily news coverage while the Roanoke station’s staffers grieve. Former WDBJ reporter Vester Lee Flanagan II shot Adam and Alison while Alison was interviewing a local person on live television. The Gunman posted videos of his crime on social media before taking his own life. Vicky Gardner, the person who was being interviewed and the third victim is doing better. Doctors have upgraded her condition to good.
Tropical Storm Erika is currently moving over the Leeward Islands. Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for Puerto Rico and the US/British Virgin Islands.
Seattle Children’s Hospital is warning families of up to 12,000 patients who underwent surgery at its Bellevue Clinic that they could have been exposed to infection by improperly cleaned and sterilized equipment—patients who had a surgical procedure at its Bellevue clinic will need to be tested for hepatitis B and C, as well HIV. They say the risk to patients is extremely low. The hospital is contacting patients and offering a free blood test to those who may be affected. As many as 12,000 children and young adults treated at the clinic since 2010 could be at risk.
