Confederate flag debate begins in S.C. House–Pushback could develop today as the South Carolina House debates removing the Confederate flag from the Statehouse grounds. Some House members remain adamantly opposed to removing it. The momentum to remove it comes three weeks after the shooting rampage at a predominantly black church in Charleston left nine people losing their life.
Snohomish County adds 911 text service today. SNOCOM, which handles communications for Snohomish County, will accept text messages meant for situations when a phone call will not work. The system is aimed at helping people in dangerous situations like a domestic violence call, home invasion or kidnapping where a call cannot be made. It’s also designed to help those with speech impairments.
Skies over Western Washington are hazy from wildfires in Canada. More than 60 wildfires are burning in British Columbia and the National Weather Service in Seattle said a smoke plume from a wildfire near Pemberton covered a good portion of Vancouver Island and on into Washington.
