What makes you think of summer?
For me, I have fond memories of hanging out at Greenlake, homemade Popsicles dripping down my chin, the aroma of that suntan lotion that smells like coconut or the sound of the ice cream truck. How about the smell of freshly cut grass or the feel of the hot sidewalk under your bare feet? Those memories bring me right back to my childhood.
I have two boys and I’m not sure that they have enough of those fond images or smells that will bring them back to summer years from now. They spend a lot of time looking at their phones or playing video games (and if I’m being honest, I do, too.) I’ve recently realized that I haven’t been intentional about making those memories happen for them.
We did just get back from Lake Chelan where we went on all sorts of adventures that involved swimming, mini-golfing, jet-skiing, board game playing and meal making. And they didn’t want to leave – which is a good sign, right? But I realize that some of the memories I so wish for them to have, are found in our simple everyday life. We don’t have to take a big vacation to find those moments… If we are intentional, we can find them each day, right where we are. Tonight for us, it’s going to be homemade ice cream cones outside! What about you?
We’ve got a long holiday weekend ahead so I hope you find lots of opportunities to make those memories with your family that will last your kids a lifetime!
Happy 4th of July!
