James Hardie Homeowner Checklist
If you are re-siding your home with James Hardie® siding, here’s a short list of
best practices to review with your contractor:
Does your contractor install James Hardie® with ColorPlus® Technology – the ONLY coating system specifically designed for fiber cement? ColorPlus Technology is applied in a controlled factory environment and baked-on for long-term durability and performance. ColorPlus Technology comes with a 15-year limited warranty on paint and labor.
JAMES HARDIE COLORPLUS® TOUCH-UP
When installing ColorPlus siding, your contractor should only use ColorPlus® Touch-Up provided by James Hardie. ColorPlus Touch-Up is specifically formulated to match ColorPlus Technology colors and offers resistance to aging, color change and chalking when used on James Hardie ColorPlus Products.
Ensure you have the full durability that is delivered through a ColorPlus exterior by insisting your contractors use James Hardie ColorPlus Touch-Up.
What part of your exterior takes the most abuse from Mother Nature? The trim. So, request that your contractor install HardieTrim® boards – the perfect complement to James Hardie siding. HardieTrim boards are resistant to rotting, warping, and cracking, and are lower maintenance than wood trim boards.
James Hardie offers a wide array of product profi les and colors. Whether you want to refresh the current look of your home or re-design the style altogether, James Hardie product portfolio and designer colors offer the options you need for a beautiful transformation.
JAMES HARDIE CONTRACTOR PROGRAM
Does your contractor participate in one of the James Hardie contractor programs? These programs are designed to keep participating contractors informed on the latest installation best practices and match professional installers with homeowners looking to re-side with James Hardie products.
BEST PRACTICE GUIDE
Before you sign the contract, make sure your contractor has participated in James Hardie installation training and has a copy of the James Hardie Best Practice Guide. You can also download a copy from our website at www.JamesHardie.com.
NO CAULKING AT BUTT JOINTS
Does your contractor follow the recommended (if installing ColorPlus siding it’s required) treatment at butt joints (between planks)? By using fl ashing behind the joint, we eliminate the need for caulking, saving you time and money. The caulking can become a huge maintenance issue long-term, fading at different rates than your siding, shrinking and/or cracking.
