I love it when something I’ve seen over and over again hits me as though I’ve never seen it before. I’ve heard people talk about how we are “adopted sons and daughters” of God and the Bible calls us “heirs of God.” I’ve even thought of how our adoption of our son Meyer was a picture of God’s adoption of us. But recently, I found the comparison to be remarkable in ways I didn’t expect.
We chose Meyer. He didn’t do anything to make it happen. When Meyer entered our family, he had to learn new rules and change the way he lived his life, but even so, he is entitled to everything a member of the family should have. Not only is Meyer entitled to the stuff, but we love him just like we do our daughter Camille.
I know how much I love my kids. If you’re a parent, you know how much you love yours. Maybe that’s just a fuzzy picture of how much God loves us.
