My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary and it had nothing to do with a nice restaurant or flowers. Perhaps you can relate. Here’s how it happened:
We had worked all day, he kids needed attention and the thought of getting dressed up was laughable. So, instead, we shared a slice of chocolate cake out of a ‘to-go’ container while the dishwasher hummed in the background. Then, the baby started crying.
Some would argue that we should have found a sitter and gone out. I’m sure I’ve read a marriage book (or five) that would agree. But let me say this for my fellow homebodys: Date night can be found sitting on your own living room rug with a deck of cards.

PS – I did however send a peom to Joel during the afternoon and thought you might like it as well:
‘The Wild Rose’ by Wendell Berry
Sometimes hidden from me
in daily custom and in trust,
so that I live by you unaware
as by the beating of my heart.
Suddenly you flare in my sight,
a wild rose blooming at the edge
of thicket, grace and light
where yesterday was only shade,
and once again I am blessed, choosing
again what I chose before.
